It was already my favorite movie when I finally had a chance to see it on the big screen, during its’ theater 70mm rerelease in 2001. And it blew my mind so hard I had to pick up the pieces over at the next county the following morning.
Now I’m suspecting it might be the greatest piece of art ever committed to any medium, full stop, and I’m not alone in this assessment.

I think 2001 is the best example of the unique characteristics of movies/film as an artform. Other movies may have better acting and stories, but in my opinion nothing beats the visual and auditory experience of 2001.

In my opinion, it really does feel like a journey too. The slower pace makes it seem like you’re far away from humanity on a tiny lifeboat in an endless sea of blackness.

It makes the climactic confrontation with HAL feel all the more desperate and isolating.

      It’s a masterpiece.
