I’m not Canadian but you all need to nip this s*** in the bud.
The Public “Hey Premier, we got all issues on going on. Can we get help?”
Ford “Fucking bike lanes.”
The Public “Ummm, a lot of us are having trouble financially, can we get we help?”
Ford “Fucking bike lanes.”
The Public “Ummm, there’s raising hate against minorities…”
Ford “Fucking bike lanes.”
The Public “I don’t bike lanes are the source of any of these major problems.”
Ford “Fucking bike lanes.”
The Public: “You’ve still got our vote, Doug.” 🤷♂️
That is one subset of the public. Another subset has a problem that their cars are stuck in traffic, and they don’t see bikes as an answer for them. (nor do they see how much worse car traffic would be if those bikes were cars instead)
The public is not a single entity with a single concern.
Which is why democracy is a failure without education.
Wolves and pigs voting on what’s for dinner.
Careful. Bike people can’t fathom someone for whom a bike isn’t an answer to a number of questions.
I’ve met some bike people like that. And others who think the bike is about a nice sunday ‘fitness’ ride to a bar and not useful for any other trip.

I will say even if you agree with the video definitely watch it or at least watch some other videos by this creator. His videos are so well made and his arguments are so well presented! He also just has a lot of great B-roll type material showing some really nice places to live and how much better things could be if we built all cities this way.
Then maybe he shouldn’t use clickbait titles if the information is so great. Low information, sensationalist titles tend to indicate the content is actually low value.
Also, in communication, always apply the “could this meeting have been an email?” thought process. Don’t use video when a simple article would suffice.
Clickbait is the reality of the YouTube algorithm. It’s an undisputed fact that clickbait titles and thumbnails get far more views than otherwise. This is due to the way YouTube recommends videos that already have more views, a kind of “the rich get richer” system of views that dominates the landscape.
I strongly admire and appreciate creators who adamantly refuse to use clickbait for their videos. Unfortunately, these videos and creators are much harder to find unless you’re specifically seeking them out by keyword. In the case of “Not Just Bikes” I never would have found his videos because I wasn’t even aware of the New Urbanism movement until YouTube recommended one of NJB’s videos to me.
