Honestly I liked her. I thought she’d make good decisions on the hot seat. But I think she let her advisors push her to the right, into a milquetoast corporate campaign. And that’s what killed it.
Layoffs have everything to do with the economy. If money isn’t going in then it isn’t going out and as money slows down, so does the economy. It doesn’t work without the people.

Yeah that’s the unfortunate truth. And in the US it’s definitely a system that looks for people to victimize, there are financial and political incentives to doing so. We’re not going to solve it in the short term but the first step has got to be a wide realization that something is wrong there.

There also needs to be good enforcement. We made a law protecting the jobs of National Guard Soldiers called up for Iraq and Afghanistan and employers just didn’t care. Enforcement was extremely lax, basically having to personally pay a lawyer and employers had a million excuses the courts accepted.

I don’t think it was purpose, but they sure aren’t showing much effort. They’re used to living comfortable lives no matter who wins.
If someone in end stage cancer wants to press the fast forward button I will help them. That is a horrible way to go and forcing people to suffer through it as long as possible isn’t what’s best for them. It just makes the people around them feel better.
I’m much less of a fan of opening it up to mental illness, combined with pushes to reintroduce institutionalization I see a lot of potential for abuse.
