Welcome new members! Please take a second to read the rules located in the community sidebar.

We are doing our best to appeal the Reddit ban. In the meantime, we thought it might be nice to have a new safe space to snark and have made lemmy.ca our new home.

Please bear with us while we figure the new site out and please let any former TBP Reddit users know we are here!

Hey all, long-time Lemmy user who spotted this community on my All feed.

So, first of all, welcome to the fediverse! I hope this isn’t information overload, but I thought it’d be useful for you if I went over a few basic terms here, what they mean, and a big overview of how all this works.

First of all, your “instance” is lemmy.ca. An instance is kinda analogous to how an email server works. A Gmail user can email a Yahoo user just as easily as another Gmail user: same idea here. I’m on sh.itjust.works, a different instance run by a different admin, different mod team, different rules. But that doesn’t stop me seeing communities (the equivalent of subreddits) and being able to post/comment/reply/vote in any of your stuff!

The fediverse takes this concept one step bigger. Mastodon users can see/reply/post/etc into Lemmy as well from their own accounts on very different platforms. Same with Friendica, Kbin, Diaspora, Soundstorm, Peertube, etc. All of these different platforms with different features and focuses, but we’re all connected via an underlying protocol that allows us to all talk to eachother.

And the best part? Because of the separation of instances, no one person or organization can single-handedly make gigantic platform ruining decisions. A hypothetical Lemmy version of Spez would just end up killing their own instance as everybody migrates their user accounts to instances that aren’t run by crazy people. There’s even quite a few people who run their own tiny one person instances so they are quite literally their own admins.

As someone who put in many many hours answering questions and getting people acclimated during Reddit’s APIocalypse, please don’t hesitate to ask if there’s something you’d like to know about Lemmy or the fediverse as a whole.

Got some more info from that comment: https://lemmy.ca/comment/9669464

We are a group of concerned consumers who are having public discourse over an internet influencer who is scamming her followers by posting filtered photos and by denying her obvious physical enhancements such as lip fillers and passing it off as natural and unfiltered. She also sells products on her platform that she does not disclose are sponsored content and that she makes kickbacks from the sales. In Canada, this is illegal under the Competition Act. She has also been caught plagiarizing BIPOC creator and has never addressed this, nor apologized for it, and she certainly has not compensated the BIPOC creators foe the “borrowed” content, either. She also exploits her 3 yr old for content, which is extremely concerning because the child cannot legally give consent for their image and likeness to be used for commercial gain. She also posts so much private information about her children that we know where they work, live, go to school and take part in their hobbies. This is extremely concerning from a safety perspective.

If you want to have a look at plagiarism: https://lemmy.ca/post/22735011?scrollToComments=true

Post where the lemmy.ca admins affirm that they don’t see a problem with the community as long as it follows the instance rules: https://lemmy.ca/post/22638028?scrollToComments=true

To me the main interest in the community is seeing people who are completely out of the usual Lemmy demographic learning how to use the platform (and they seem to adapt quite well). If you don’t care about this or about the topic itself, it’s probably better to block the community and call it a day.

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I’m starting to think someone who seemed trustworthy from the OG sub might actually be involved. When a private sub, made by someone who wasn’t a former mod, that had only a handful of supposedly trusted people added to it, no mention of her, and no posts about her gets banned for reported harassment, I can’t help but feel suspicious.

Yes Im thinking this might be the case. There were only a few of us there and zero reference to any names, the previous community, literally nothing alluding to it being a replacement because it wasn’t

Those ones for sure. I’m talking about a completely private, invite only group, created by someone who was never a mod elsewhere, that had, at the time of banning, fewer than 10 invitation only members, not a single mention of her, and no conversations about her. To me, that’s odd.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be suspicious. Especially being that it wasn’t a former mod who made it. Unless Reddit has flagged and will be watching every member? But that’s ridiculous, right?!🙃

I don’t want to start getting suspicious of each other as that’s exactly what birdie would want. I think it’s more likely Reddit flagged her name and is shutting down any new subs that reference her. They may even be watching former sub members somehow. Just my opinion! I have a different username on here but I’m willing to share my Reddit username if it comes down to that. I think there was only like 10 of us in the completely unrelated group that was shut down?

It’s funny because I noticed in the days leading up to the ban, unfamiliar names making quite a few comments, but they almost seemed to mimic what others were writing to seem like they were “in”. Not like “hey we have to same opinion of this topic and her”, but almost trying too hard to fit in with the “cool kids”. I don’t know how to describe it, but it sent my spidey senses

In regard to the Reddit ban - I think it’s an effort in futility to start a sub with Birdie as the focus. It’s just going to get shutdown; which is ridiculous since she should not be above scrutiny but this is what it is. We might consider a more general snark for a period of time while things cool down?

A CDNdeinfuenced page was started, not a single mention of her and it was still banned. This seemed like a safe route to me as NYC and LA both have their influencer snark communities but no. There are some very serious censorship issues I hope Reddit will be seeing clearly. These influencers are businesses and must be held accountable

You’re right! There was absolutely no reason for that sub to be taken down with the reasoning it was replicating a banned sub. It wasn’t. It was something different and the princess just happened to be caught in the umbrella of it being for ALL Cdn influencers! I don’t know anything about Reddit or how it makes its decisions but it doesn’t stand up for its users

I was thinking a snark about Knix could work. We can talk about the brand partners and ambassadors, about how Knix says it’s inclusive but it’s cut out it’s trans influencer now that they don’t need her anymore, how it manipulated the SI appearance, how its product is too expensive and generally sucks. How its founder is hypocrite, the weird relationship between the Princess and Queen Panties. It seems like she is her personal pet project. She’s helping the poor, divorced, young, single mother live her dreams of taking off her clothes for money

I’d be willing to bet Knix/Joanna has a lot to do with getting the sub banned. Birdie doesn’t have that kind of money or power, but Joanna does.

I was saying the same thing. Literally the day before the sub was banned, there was a post on our sub showing those negative Glassdoor reviews for knix. Then all of a sudden the next morning we are wiped out. We also even had one private sub that was not an actual replacement, nothing on there would’ve alluded to it being the case imo, and still banned. Its ridiculous

I really like the idea of starting a sub , even if a private one, with our same members but make it very clearly not a replacement. Like even just state its for our members to hang out and discuss anything, influencer culture or pop culture etc. I would be interested to see if it gets shut down, even if any TBP reference was written cryptically or something. Idk I am upset. I’m glad to see this new site, struggling learning to navigate it and to find where things are and figure out who is who 😆

I think publicly advertising it could’ve been the issue. All it takes is Sarah finding out the new sub and reporting it. Even one single report could be enough to get it banned, as making replacement groups does violate reddit TOS.

I am curious to see if a totally obviously non replacement sub, presented as a casual discussion space for our members, would get the hammer…I’m so pissed off by all of this, and upset. Our community was very valuable to me

There are way more famous people whose assholes get torn up way bigger than SNL’s. It shows she truly has nothing else going on in her life that she sits and constantly looks at the snark surrounding her, when more famous people are too busy to care. Her shit smells more than she’s willing to admit.

Whoever posted on the blogsnark subreddit asking if it was okay to talk about TBP on there now, if you are here to read this I would recommend not to go over there. All of the people that are on the blogsnarkmetasnark page (some of whom responded to the post) will come over to rip you a new one, then go back to their subreddit to talk about how horrible of a human you are. Just a warning. It’s way more drama than what it is worth.

I went and had a look at the parentblogsnark because someone had posted a notice about TBP sub take down and people have some strong opinions about our snark. I don’t get the, if you don’t like it then don’t follow, mentality. In a case like the Princess, who is outright lying about her appearance and that’s her entire platform, it makes me feel like just walking away and not shining a light on it is being a bystander. The stories from women in the sub really affected me and showed me how much harm she’s causing and I really feel a duty to inform. That sounds all high and mighty but if everyone turns a blind eye to what’s wrong in society then it’s allowed to continue.

Super weird. Their whole premise is to snark on people in other subreddits that they feel aren’t snarking the right way. It’s pretty big too which is what surprises me most since it’s so hypocritical.

Lol yes. You can usually tell by comments like this the people who belong to the blogsnarkmetasnark sub. They all very much respond to posts in similar ways usually criticizing the poster, downvote them, and then go back to their sub to discuss the stupidity of the people who posted or commented. Once you start to notice it, it becomes obvious who they are. They were also laughing about TBP sub being shut down on their sub. No wonder people barely post in blogsnark anymore.
