It’s funny I’ve heard how this game is bad because “Woke” and how it’s good because “Not Woke”
I even heard someone claim that the game is “Chinese Propaganda” and Iron Fist being broken as all hell was “Intentional to showcase the superiority of asians over whites as claimed by the CCP”
…Even though Iron Fist is a white guy and has always been a white guy. I love that people keep mistaking Iron Fist for being an asian simply because he does martial arts. To put it into perspective as to how absurd that is, imagine if people thought Gordon Ramsay was a woman “Because he can cook.”
Let’s be honest, if Alien came out today it would be laughed out of theaters as an abomination of wokeness and Disney trying “Way too hard”… For the first week, and then when it became a hit you’d have Right Wingers backtracking saying “Well actually it’s not woke and Disney is ashamed of the film’s success”
(Note: I know Fox did the original film, but since Fox is owned by Disney it would be attributed to Disney today)
You’d have dozens of Far Right Youtubers trying to MacGyver together a deeper “Right Wing” meaning to the film. (No joke, there’s a loud minority of Right Wingers who claim Zootopia is a metaphor for Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, with the sheep being Hillary and the lion being Trump)
I imagine they’d even go so far as to say “Oh, clearly the Alien represents the black people coming into our country and raping white folks! It’s about how race-mixing destroys families! See cause the Alien is black and Ripley is white!”
And the Twitter people who have an equally loud minority claiming that the Xenomorph is a racist dogwhistle because for some reason they believe the Right Wing spin on it.
And THIS is why we can’t have nice things these days.
Don’t believe me? The game Dead By Daylight actually had this exact problem when right wing fans claimed the killer called “The Unknown” was actually a “warning about the dangers of transpeople disguised as women!”, leading to people wanting to cancel DBD over it… It got so bad that the voice actress (a transwoman) fell for the misinformation and threatened to sue Behavior (DBD’s parent company)
Thankfully the situation died down when Behavior just calmly explained the character to the VA and apologized for the misconception.
Right now, the Right Wing fanbase for DBD has gone back to claiming the game is “Being murdered by DEI!” because the new killer is black and the Pride Charms released back in June are very popular, especially with newer players who don’t have many charms.
