Like, a majority of my direct interactions with some users from all across the Fediverse and not just Lemmy have been annoying. The kind of nuisance where I feel like I absolutely want to maim the person who bothered responding to me.
At least with Reddit, I know I can expect it because it’s a wider audience and that’s part of it’s reputation. With the Fediverse, for a considerably smaller pool of people in comparison that desire more friendlier engagements because of wanting an alternative, they certainly have proven to be the biggest jackasses of the bunch.
Which makes me think that there’s really no hope for the Fediverse in general to be as big as the opposition. Because once people see that there’s virtually no difference between where they’ve been from where they are, it almost defeats the purpose of having switched at all.
And that’s pretty much where I’m sitting currently.
People are people
The first groups to come to a new platform are the hopefuls, the trendsetters, and the fringe groups … Sadly this last group is the loudest.
I block all politics subs, I have about 100 people on my block list, and Lemmy is pretty nice and helpful. There are a bunch of people I haven’t blocked yet but give tags like troll/combative/talking points. Helps me keep track… And most of the anger and hate… From the same tagged people over and over and over.
If this seems like alot of work, consider joining beehaw, they have very active moderation, and if you stick to local communities you will have a more curated experience.
Including down votes! There are some people who basically only downvote every thing, their thumbs must be tired.
Ohh my first downvote proves my point @Orbituary@lemmy.world graced me with a downvote, look at their comment history, they are filled with combative vitriol and hate ; Great example that while lemmy can seem hateful and noisy, its just a few people.
We see more of these people because they are loud, post often, and rejected from other platforms. Lemmy van be great dispite them.
