We acknowledge that some people may prefer other terminology, including “chestfeeding.” Pediatric health care professionals are encouraged to assess and utilize a person’s preferred language regarding infant feeding. This guidance on infant feeding may also be used in cases of use of human milk by a nonbirthing parent with the primary goal of minimizing risk of HIV transmission to the infant.
