I’m pretty big on deck building, although I can’t get into poker or MTG. This game though, I don’t find it at all similar to regular deck building games.
You get a HUGE amount of resources(cards) to play with, and progress can be made in many many ways. The game is really forgiving about mistakes, and doesn’t punish for not taking the optimal route, if there even is such a thing in this game.
The real challenge is in keeping track of your available and unavailable stuff. I play on dual monitor with 6 pages of spreadsheets and two pages of the wiki open, which is probably not how everyone enjoys gaming, but I really enjoy it.
Book of Hours. I’m normally not big on simulation games, but life has been frustrating lately, so I’m really enjoying the cycle of unlocking rooms, reading new books, improving skills, unlocking more stuff…
