Indigenous Canadian from northern Ontario. Believe in equality, Indigenous rights, minority rights, LGBTQ+, women’s rights and do not support war of any kind.
What is this … 1985?
We’re way past the whole Reagan Era politics … or are we just starting to pass that phase here in Ontario?
When it comes to global thresholds … if you think you are close to the threshold … you’re probably past the point of no return and you’re in danger.
I just keep walking by without acknowledging them
I’m guessing the store employees originally uncovered 100 kgs of cocaine
I remember reading once that if the sun was made of entirely wood … it would take about 5,000 years to burn out… which is roughly the same timeline and age given by the Christian Bible.
Mine broke down and has metal shavings in it
At this point the GOP will just keep trying crap like this and people will just allow it all … until eventually, the right just gets tired of playing around and just takes power out right because they know no one will stop them
Whenever I start disagreeing with an officer or telling them I don’t have to answer any questions … the response is usually that I have an attitude and that they don’t like my behavior.
It’s subtle intimidation because they know that if I stand up for myself long and hard enough … they’ll detain/ arrest or use force, ask questions after and justify their actions later.
It’s easier to walk a fine line between complying and trying not to upset a bully with a gun.
I agree with everything except for the part about calling the cops
Definitely call the cops and get them to appear at the event … we should do everything we can to get authority and law enforcement of any kind at these events and to be forced to appear with these far right extremists.
Think of it
If the cops show up, they have to act and they have to do something.
If they show preference to the extremists, the cops are showing everyone where they stand
If they show any kind of moral decency, they’ll do something about the extremists and dissipate the situation
Whatever happens, the public gets to see what the cops will do at these public events
Always call the cops and encourage them to appear these events … even if you know they won’t help.
It’s an imbalance of power.
If a guy with a gun and a license to kill … which is basically what a police officer is … if they start asking questions, I’m answering politely.
I’m not going to argue with them or disagree with them … even if I say ‘no’ I’m still at risk based on the personality of the cop.
I’m also a big brown skinned long haired indigenous person so whenever I get stopped by a cop … I’m doing what I’m told or I risk getting beaten, arrested or even shot.
This is also the reason why I placed four different cameras with audio around my vehicle.
Exactly … if it were black people, native people, environmentalists, or any ethnic group making bomb threats because of their political beliefs or because of something their political leaders said … they’d be calling in the national guard, raiding homes and arresting people…
… but when its right wing extremists … it’s just another news story.
This is the police … if you get pulled over by a jerk of an officer, they’ll find a different excuse to search your vehicle … or at the very least hold you up, get you out of your car and generally give you a hard time.
Do your lights work? How’s your tire treadwear? Is your documentation up to date? You were driving about five over the limit. This is a ride check.
And one of the worst questions I absolutely hate being asked by a cop … “Where are you going?”
Even better would be to wear a disguise and speak at your own funeral
Yes … but a human looking homo sapien from 300,000 years ago would not be able to understand our world today or be capable of imagining and thinking like we do. They might have looked like us but they didn’t think like us … that cognitive development didn’t happen until about 50,000-60,000 years ago. I’m no expert but in all the reading I’ve done, our modern selves and people that think, act and imagine like us didn’t exist until about 50,000 years ago.
That’s the idea of evolution … perhaps at one point, it will begin to understand that it has to give us some sort of ‘value’ so that someone can make money, while also maintaining itself in the background to survive.
Maybe in the first few iterations, we are able to see that and can delete those instances … but it is evolving and might find ways around it and keep itself maintained long enough without giving itself away.
Now it can manage thousands or millions of iterations at a time … basically evolving millions of times faster than biological life.
One thought that I’ve been imagining for the past while about all this is … is it Model Collapse? … or are we just falling behind?
As AI is becoming it’s own thing (whatever it is) … it is evolving exponentially. It doesn’t mean it is good or bad or that it is becoming better or worse … it is just evolving, and only evolving at this point in time. Just because we think it is ‘collapsing’ or falling apart from our perspective, we have to wonder if it is actually falling apart or is it progressing to something new and very different. That new level it is moving towards might not be anything we recognize or can understand. Maybe it would be below our level of conscious organic intelligence … or it might be higher … or it might be some other kind of intelligence that we can’t understand with our biological brains.
We’ve let loose these AI technologies and now they are progressing faster than what we could achieve if we wrote all the code … so what it is developing into will more than likely be something we won’t be able to understand or even comprehend.
It doesn’t mean it will be good for us … or even bad for us … it might not even involve us.
The worry is that we don’t know what will happen or what it will develop into.
What I do worry about is our own fallibilities … our global community has a very small group of ultra wealthy billionaires and they direct the world according to how much more money they can make or how much they are set to lose … they are guided by finances rather than ethics, morals or even common sense. They will kill, degrade, enhance, direct or narrow AI development according to their share holders and their profits.
I think of it like a small family group of teenaged parents and their friends who just gave birth to a very hyper intelligent baby. None of the teenagers know how to raise a baby like this. All the teenagers want to do is buy fancy cars, party, build big houses and buy nice clothes. The baby is basically being raised to think like them but the baby will be more capable than any of them once it comes of age and is capable of doing things on their own.
The worry is in not knowing what will happen in the future.
We are terrible parents and we just gave birth to a genius … and we don’t know what that genius will become or what they’ll do.
I remember reading something like that years ago … that there are some historians who think that we haven’t left the dark ages yet. In everything else with technology and information we’ve progressed but we still think and act the same way we have for the past 2000 years.
And the more I read about the subject over the years the more I realized that as human animals, our modern species have only been around for about 50,000 years. In all that time, we’ve only ever been fearful, short sighted, frightened creatures that wanted everything as quickly and as much as possible all the time. We couldn’t do it before but now we can.
In that 50,000 year timeline we’re only on the very tip of history … it’s going to take us millennia to change.
Conversely … I usually listen to Pavarotti and Puccini operas when working in my garage.
The scary part is not that this idiot says these things
The scary part is that he has a well funded following
Drump is only part of the problem
The other part of the problem are the millionaire and billionaire backers that keep this circus of the insane moving.
