  • I’ve tested with Smooth Display, but still have the same issue. I think that setting has more to do with screen refresh rates and animations. I don’t think Touch Sensitivity is it, either. This seems more to do with making it easier to register touches with a screen protector. The problem that I have is not registering touches, it’s that when I swipe (e.g. left or right to sift through an image carousel), the original screen springs back into position instead of advancing to the next screen. It happens a lot in the app store when I’m using my thumb to browse the screenshots. I swipe left b/c I want to view the second screenshot, but the first screenshot moves over but not enough to advance to the second screenshot. It just snaps back into place and I’m still looking at the first screenshot. Same issue in reverse when I’m using my thumb to swipe right, it’s like it wants me to start the swipe gesture from too far left on the screen where it’s not very easy to reach, and it’s not ergonomic to have to basically wiggle the phone in my hand to reach that far over to start the swipe gesture. In summary, it’s a navigation issue, not a touch screen issue—I hope I’m making sense. Thanks anyway for chiming in, though.

  • As mappers we can link OSM objects to images, but the images themselves must be hosted elsewhere because OSM is not an image hosting service. You can upload the images of your parkour landmarks to wikimedia commons, flickr, or really any image hosting service, then update the tags for the POIs in OSM.

As for saving the POIs, most apps that use OSM have favorites or bookmarks, for example, I know OsmAnd does, and I’d bet Organic Maps does, too. I know OsmAnd also has a way of displaying the images linked to a POI, so what you’d do is bookmark your parkour landmarks in an app like OsmAnd, then you should be good to go.

  • Keep in mind that instances (not just communities, but instances) come and go. Worst case, if an instance dies, yes, a community can move to a new instance, but you might want to consider several factors when choosing an instance to start a new community.

    • How long has the instance been around?
    • How is the instance hosted, governed, funded? Donations, non-profit, some rando’s spare laptop, etc.
    • Which other instances are they federated with, and which instances are they not federated with?
    • Are the instance admins active?
    • How often do the admins update the instance to the latest version of Lemmy software?
    • Other personal preferences, e.g., does the instance have alternate front ends, etc.

If you decide to just take over one of the existing communities whose current admins are no longer active, you can request for the LW admins to appoint you as moderator of said communities. Do try reaching out to the existing admins first. But yeah, if nothing else, you could then facilitate a transition to the new instance, e.g., poll the active users to see if they want to move, and if so, then lock the community and post a link so new users can find the other instance.
