They know, they don’t care. It’s all virtue signaling. All their base sees is that the politicians are trying to force Christianity on people and the godless heathens are stopping them. Clearly they need to vote more Republicans into office.
Oh they know. Doesn’t stop them from trying anyway, as they love to shove their religion down little kids throats.
True, however some of them, especially rural ones, are so insular that it doesn’t even occur to them that this is possible until it bonks them on the nose.
