I cannot possibly imagine not doing this job in a fully sealed deep diving suit with a hepa filter and chainmail from head to toe.

Silicosis is a fucking nightmare on par with mesothelioma and emphysema.

Honestly, this is actually one of the times where the satirical word pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is actually applicable!?

Yeah, the N95’s are a good step, but probably not enough. Some people weren’t wearing masks at all.

Also, It didn’t look like any of the saws had good safety stops, the angle-grinders were taped down, and the guy cutting the balls seemed to be really close to getting a (gloved) hand sucked into the saw.

Definitely not the worst safety, but people are definitely getting hurt at this job site. And this is what they considered good enough to show on Youtube, so probably worse than we think…

      Very cool balls though.

Puncturing the diving suit, and also psychological reassurance being near that massive saw.

Anecdotal but a kitchen I worked at used it for shucking oysters, i.e. specifically to prevent puncture of skin.

They meant puncture as in stabbing the chainmail with a pointy thing vs cutting it. They do offer some protection but it’s easier to get through; more force in a smaller area

Yeah it’s all about tradeoffs, really. Plate’s great but it does weigh and cost more so you wouldn’t see as much of it in the field – although it’s not nearly as clunky as popularly portrayed because you had to be able to fight in that thing. A lot of the time throwing some mail and a gambeson on a peasant is Good Enough™ for the mass of your army

Does volcanic glass really look like that? Perhaps it’s just glass slag from a factory.

I wasn’t sure if this was a community that removes posts if you change the title.

Understandable, I would have left the original title intact as well. A real enjoyable video, thanks for posting.

Okay NGL, I would love to have blood red gravel to decorate… Something. If I owned property.

… Huh? No, we don’t have that, but we do have “oh shit!” as in “Oh shit I lost another finger!”
