  • I reserve the vile habit of referring to people/personas as “it” only for a certain type of individual who attacks others based on identity whilst using identity politics as their personal shield.

This behavior is irregardless of their purported identity or orientation, beliefs-- it is me signalling staunch refusal to engage in any form of identity nuance when I have only ever seen them use identity in bad faith.

I can recall only two personas I go out of my way to refer to in this manner-- I can’t promise that I wouldn’t refer to anyone else similarly, but I hope everyday that I may never come across more who earn the distinction.

  • I’m not familiar with the context of that accusation, besides having seen the meme.

[insert more incessant rambling here because idk it’s what I do I guess (see edit)]

At the end of the day, this may be an entire nothing burger, but I am still exercising my right to protest what I have all reason to believe is a deliberate attempt to censor accurate and relevant information in favor of obvious misinformation. Because while I could care less about how or when social media dies, I care deeply about the fruitful efforts of certain bad actors to skew public perception and further a social divide for their own gain.

edit: just paid better attention to the comment you linked, I was mistaken and that is my accusation. I disagree with the notion that I was intentionally misgendering, however-- I intentionally refused to acknowledge any gender identity for one subject in particular, but the other one I believe to be entirely accidental.

  • Yeah, even if he is advising or contributing, the way he put it sounds very disingenuous like he’s trying to inflate the number for his argument. Which MIGHT mean there likely was not many with immediately recognizable significance in that time (don’t yell at me, I have not taken the time to verify this).

Either way, the way he responded comes across as very “I’m published, you’re not, neener neener!” which is not a good look for anyone with a doctorates.

Also, genuine question, how significant was the contribution of LeNet-5 to the field of deep learning vs Neocognitron?

  • If you don’t recognize the number, answer in a funny accent. That’s how you defeat the voice harvesters.

  • Gabe has said multiple times he would never sell Valve to Microshaft.

Every time I see these “rumors” I can’t help but think that they are a malicious tactic by Microshaft to try and influence their more longshot buyout offers-- Microshaft really really wants Valve, this has been known for at least a decade. And some overzealous young execs are foolishly ready to try and pressure Valve with these bullshit tactics, completely unaware of what dangerous game they are playing legally.

I have no doubt in my mind Valve will never be sold to Microshaft or come anywhere close to it so long as Gabe or his confidants are at the helm. They are ex-Microsoft employees. They built Windows 3.0. They know it’s inner workings and failings very intimately and they only begrudgingly tolerate Windows because it’s the dominant market share. That’s the whole reason SteamOS and Steam Deck exist, to chip away at Microsoft’s attempts to monopolize PC gaming. And that’s exactly why Microsoft is hoarding IP and restricting their most prestigious titles, like Halo, to Windows through anticheat.

Whoever is starting these rumors are either pathetically stupid and attention hungry or are spreading misinformation in a hail mary at the behest of Microshaft.

  • If it wasn’t obvious that the Debian box is a parody, here’s what the Japanese Chinese text along the top reads on each box:

Please read the instructions carefully and use it under the guidance of a physician. It is strictly prohibited to be used in food and feed processing.

Please read the installation instructions carefully and use it under the guidance of the administrator. It is strictly prohibited to use for server installation.

so yes, the title is correct-- this is not a coincidence, the Debian box was made explicitly for this joke

edit: thanks for the correction folks, honestly thought it looked more like Japanese than Chinese at first glance and I am obviously not an expert in either. Appreciate the call-out, very deserved.

Because modern day social scientists have legitimately lost the plot and think it’s more important to for careers to be built by ethnicity rather than merit, and call any alternative a matter of facilitating and furthering “privilege” with no data to back up their claims.

I know people who have been pushed out of labs and bullied into quitting their degree programs just because they were hetero white males. I am unfortunately not kidding, not exaggerating, and the details I am leaving out only make the circumstances worse.

Academics have quietly acknowledged that academia itself is dying because of this and other issues that call the validity of modern science literature into question.

I have a friend who is published in Nature, and I’m very tempted to send them this article. They have already stated that being published in Nature means nothing these days to anyone who actually pays attention to what they publish, and this is just further proof of it.

For all who digress: I welcome all downvotes. I am not trolling, I am not inciting, I am laying out the honest truth as it has been illustrated to me by credible academics over the past five years. I don’t care what you learned in social sciences. I don’t care who published what. You seek to undermine academia by making merit moot and for that I respect you less than I even respect Silicon Valley-- that is to say, dismally little. And idgaf what you label me because if you are on the other side of this, your words mean absolutely nothing to me and never will.
